Lean Energy Managers & Application Managers
Energy managers and application managers combine measurement inputs with embedded calculation models to quantify energy flows and application-specific KPIs in real time. They use flow plus temperature and/or pressure to compute the energy content of liquids and steam, establishing the measurement basis needed for targeted optimization. Because heating and cooling are energy-intensive processes and energy can represent a material share of operating cost, systematic energy-flow recording becomes a practical prerequisite for efficiency programs.
The Endress+Hauser portfolio spans dedicated heat and steam calculators as well as multifunction application devices. The EngyCal series includes a calibratable heat meter for liquids and a steam calculator, each designed to accept the required sensor inputs for mass and energy flow calculations. Beyond calculation, selected devices add control and specialized logging - such as batch controllers that record flow and control valve/pump outputs for accurate dosing, bunker metering computers that compile bunker data into structured reports, and flow computers aimed at demanding custody-transfer gas metering applications.
Benefits extend beyond the immediate energy number. The platform approach emphasizes high data security, centralized documentation, and traceable logbook functions for error messages and parameter changes with date/time stamps. Embedded libraries support energy calculations across gas, liquid, steam, and water applications - including mass and heat quantity metrics and related differentials - with the ability to execute multiple application calculations in parallel (up to six per device, depending on configuration).
Typical applications include steam and hot-water distribution networks, boiler and heat-exchanger performance monitoring, district heating/cooling interfaces, and utility balancing where quantified energy flow is required for allocation or optimization. Application managers also fit batch operations that require repeatable dosing based on measured flow with compensation functions, as well as bunkering where consistent collection, visualization, and storage of bunker data supports reporting and reconciliation. Interfaces and graphic displays support integration into modern automation topologies and rapid interpretation of calculated results during process changes.
