Extended Oxygen Sensors & Transmitters
Oxygen sensors and transmitters measure dissolved oxygen (DO) as a core parameter for biological treatment performance, water quality, and process stability. Systems comprise the sensor element (electrochemical/amperometric or optical) and a transmitter that performs signal conditioning, compensation, and integration into control architectures. The result is continuous DO visibility at the point of use, rather than episodic confirmation by sampling.
DO measurement is central where oxygen availability governs reaction kinetics, corrosion potential, or product quality. In wastewater treatment, it enables aeration control that balances energy input against nitrification performance and settling behavior. In clean water applications, it supports quality monitoring and early detection of conditions that can drive taste/odor, corrosion, or biological growth issues. In industrial processes, it can be used to verify oxygen limitation or intrusion and to support consistent outcomes.
Sensor technology is selected based on required accuracy, response time, maintenance philosophy, and matrix. Amperometric sensors are commonly selected where fast response and high precision are required, while optical sensors are often selected for robustness and reduced maintenance in challenging applications. Compensation for process temperature and sensor aging behavior is handled at the transmitter level, improving comparability and long-term stability across operating cycles.
Installation execution strongly influences performance: flow conditions, bubble interference, fouling propensity, and cleaning access should be addressed with appropriate assemblies (immersion, flow, retractable) and mechanical protection. Multi-parameter transmitter platforms can consolidate DO with pH, conductivity, turbidity, and other variables to provide richer context for control strategies and event diagnosis without proliferating standalone devices.
Typical applications include aeration basin control in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, river and reservoir monitoring, drinking water treatment and distribution quality checks, aquaculture and fish farming DO control, process water monitoring, and verification of oxygen-sensitive processes in food, beverage, and chemical operations.
